What Homosexuality Is Not!

With ignorance comes fear - from fear comes bigotry. Education is the key to acceptance. - Kathleen Patel
Earlier this week, I shared the above quote on my social network pages to challenge people to educate themselves when it came to LGBTI issues and rights. I say this because so many of us have chosen to hate and discriminate with no backing. Here I am, helping you to educate yourself and hopefully it will lead to acceptance.

The LGBTI Community

Recently, I came across this great magazine and started to read it online, it is called Identity Kenya, it is the voice of Kenya's LGBTIQ and sex work community. For those of you who have followed my blog over the years, this is a group of people I have not addressed. I have nothing against them, I think I was in the dark and not realizing that they are a group that require support and a voice like any other in our society.

Male Sex Workers in Kenya

There has been a lot of talk on the social networking sites and blogosphere about commercial sex work in Nairobi and especially after a docu-series on one of the local TV stations about men who have sex with men (MSM) and male sex workers. The series got various reactions from the Kenyan society with some shocked at the reality of sex work in Kenya, some were outraged as to why it was being broadcast and some, weren't sure what to think.

In the Headlines V

Reprieve for Deaf Patients as Sign Language Training Programme for Nurses Launched: A programme has been launched to train medical nurses in Kenyan Sign Language (KSL) to assist deaf patients more effectively. I believe this is a great step in ensuring that hearing impaired patients can be understood when seeking medical treatment.

Family Law 101 [Part I]

Family law is that branch of the law that relates to marriage and the rights and responsibilities that parties have within that marriage. It also covers a large area of children's rights with respect to the care that they need within the family. The above is by no means a comprehensive description of this law, however it gives one a general overview to what it entails.
